The Island Star Chase----A Multicultural Perspective on Macau's Exploration of Space Tourism

Abstract:Chinese people have always had a romantic gene in their blood, longing to explore the mysteries of the infinite universe. Chinese people have had thought of flying the moon and the stars, probing the mysteries of the infinite universe since ancient times. Premier LiQiang delivered the Government Work Report at the second session of the14th National People's Congress in 2024, he pointed out that he would actively cultivate emerging and future industries. The government is actively building new growth industries such as bio-manufacturing, commercial spaceflight, and low-altitude space economy. This study aims to explore the opportunities for Macau to develop space tourism services in space economics.Macau has cultivated the fusion of Chineseand Western cultures and positioned as the global tourism and leisure center with its industrial diversification policy beyond traditional gaming industry. Space tourism is an innovative industry that can make a break through to Macau's competitiveness. This paper applies the literature review to Macau's aerospace culture and its unique advantages in the development of a world tourism and leisure center. Results show that Macao can take advantages of good timing, location, political communications within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for developing the space tourism industry. People's dreams for the star chase might finally be realized in the sustainable development of China's aerospace industry in the new era.
