Abstract: Against the backdrop of rapid global development and continuous innovation in medical education, the strategic direction of medical education urgently needs to be re-examined. The Ministry of Education's “Golden Course” initiative has driven reforms in China's higher education, bringing new directions to medical education. Our teaching team, rooted in basic medical education and guided by the“Golden Course”standards, has updated educational philosophies and advanced practical reforms by adopting a“whole new mind" approach-emphasizing design, play, meaning, storytelling, symphony, and empathy. Taking the teaching reform of“Pathophysiology”at Nanjing University MedicalSchool as an example, we enhanced design through virtual scenarios, incorporated playfulness with animations, and instilled meaning with real-world cases to improve students’practical skills. Additionally, by integrating life education theory, we fostered empathy through “life scenarios,” enhanced collaboration via“symbiotic scenarios," and deepened knowledge comprehension through storytelling. This reform serves as a model for other medical courses, contributing to the cultivation of high-quality medical professionals.
