Abstract: Modern Confucianism, relying on the Neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming dynasties and integrating the resources of Western philosophy, aims to complete the philosophical construction of Confucianism. In the historical process of Confucianism’s philosophization, contemporary Neo-Confucianism inherits the academic logic of modern Confucianism, loses the “Sheng sheng” ontology promised in the I Ching, and fails to establish contemporary Confucianism with the I Ching as its sect. Therefore, to reveal the content and form of the thought of “Shengsheng” in the I Ching, the first thing to do is to reveal the logical construction of the ontology of “Shengsheng” in the Shuo gua zhuan. On this basis, taking “Shengsheng” as the metaphysical foundation of Confucian philosophy, the author constructs the philosophy of “the theory of Xing er zhong” with the characteristics of I learning, thus completing the theoretical task of formalization and modernization of Confucian philosophy, and opening up ideological road of “Reason committed life concerning” for Confucian philosophy to go to the world.

Key words: Shengsheng; the Images of Shengsheng; the Tao of Gaining and Losing; the Theory of Xing er zhong
