Abstract:  As a media practitioner of left-wing culture, Xia Yan, in the cross-regional literaryand artistic united front network he constructed during the full-scale War of Resistance againstJapanese Aggression, presented a special model of intellectuals' participation in ideologicalinquiries during the war. This article focuses on two crucial periods: the eve of Hong Kong'sfall in 1941 and its return to Hong Kong after the war in 1946. Through empirical examination,it examines the editorial strategies of the "Lighthouse" supplement of the Huashang Daily, thecontribution solicitation mechanism of the literature and art column of the "Masses" Weekly, aswell as the production of wartime texts such as "Spring Cold" and "Fascist Bacteria". Revealinghow Xia Yan utilized the media of newspapers and periodicals to construct a discrete culturalspace in the colonial metropolis of Hong Kong, complete the local transformation of proletarianliterary and artistic discourse, and reconstruct the aesthetic paradigm of revolutionary realismthrough the practice of reportage literature and historical drama creation.
