Abstract: Against the backdrop of the comprehensive healthcare strategy, the issue of differentiation in the allocation of health service resources among elderly care institutions has become increasingly pronounced. Drawing on resource dependency theory, this study conducted a cross-sectional survey via questionnaires among 34 elderly care institutions of varying operational natures in Zhuhai City, exploring disparities in health service resource density and their underlying formation mechanisms. The findings reveal that public institutions boast a significantly higher density of health resources compared to their private and public-private partnership counterparts. The degree of reliance on resource acquisition channels and resource abundance serve as sequential mediators between operational nature and resource density. Notably, private institutions, heavily reliant on market-derived fees, exhibit lower resource abundance, thereby constraining investment in health resources. Conversely, the strength of institutional alliance networks exerts a negative moderating effect on the detrimental impact of channel dependence on resource abundance, with high network strength mitigating resource constraints. The research conclusions shed light on the intrinsic logic behind the differentiation in health resource allocation among elderly care institutions, offering empirical support for the development of tailored support policies and the networked advancement of institutions.
