[Abstract] Although narrative persuasion theory has proven effective in single-context settings, it facesunique challenges in intercultural communication, such as cultural background differences and culturaldiscount. This study combines narrative persuasion theory with a case study of the recent Chinesescience fiction film The Wandering Earth II to examine the narrative persuasion mechanisms andcommunication effects demonstrated by the film in its intercultural communication process. Thefindings indicate that, compared to earlier Chinese science fiction films, this film achieved highlyinfluential communication overseas. Meanwhile, its narrative effectively enhanced persuasion amonginternational audiences by integrating traditional Chinese elements and outstanding visual effects, thereby reshaping audiences' perceptions of Chinese science fiction films. Theoretically, this providesan intercultural interpretive framework for narrative persuasion theory; practically, it offers guidancefor the future overseas communication strategies of Chinese cinema and broader Global South films.
