A Study of the Diasporic Writing and its Contemporary Significance of the
Canadian Chinese Writer Chen He’s Mirror of the Sky

Abstract: The Canadian Chinese Writer Chen He has been focusing on writing about contemporary Chinese new immigrants’ experiences of living in another country. His collection of stories Mirror of Sky complies five short stories, applies the narrative form of overseas Chinese traveling literature, conducts literary writing on local overseas Chinese life from a cross-national perspective of five different countries and regions respectively. Current criticism focuses too much on the cultural interpretation of individual piece of story “Mirror of Sky”, while neglects the “assorted cold dishes” style of narrative and its diasporic writing. This paper centers on Chen He’s diasporic writing, examines its spatial narratives of “world travelling” from writing style of diasporic life, analyzes its narrative space of immigrant experience from narrative discourses of diasporic paradigms, and explores its narrative construction of cultural identification from contemporary significance of diasporic narration.
