A Study on a Controversial Patriotic Musician Yu An-pin

Abstract: Yu An-pin was a musician and sports specialist active in southern China during the 1930s and 1940s. He graduated from the Department of Physical Education of Peking Normal University in his early years. After graduation, he taught at more than ten schools in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and became a well-known figure in both the music and sports circles of southern China at the time. During the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Yu An-pin led and participated in numerous patriotic singing activities, recorded many influential patriotic song records as a singer. Although Yu An-pin was later imprisoned for sexual offenses, his contributions should not be entirely denied.
