Algorithm Aesthetics: The Source, Rules and Generation Process of AI Aestheticsfrom the Perspective of Heterogeneous Aesthetics

[Abstract]: When the aesthetic subject expands to algorithmic intelligence, the source and essence ofits aesthetic appeal become the core issue. Traditional aesthetics, which is centered on humanemotional experience, is unable to explain the self-contained formal preferences in algorithmiccreations. This article, based on the heterogeneous aesthetics framework, constructs algorithmicaesthetics and proposes that algorithmic beauty is an aesthetic form with independent value, ratherthan a simulation of human aesthetics. The article builds a three-element model of algorithmic beauty,pointing out that it is rooted in human experience, data statistics, and algorithm structure; it extractsfive generation principles and establishes an algorithmic generation process of beauty. Taking the"Super Sensory Nature" and "Virtual Existence" series of works as examples, it confirms thatalgorithms possess unique aesthetic values that are difficult to be replaced by humans in the cognitivedimension. The research shifts aesthetics from reflecting the world in the human mind to the complexissue of recursive construction of meaning by multiple intelligent systems, providing theoretical support for algorithmic art criticism.
