Xu Zhaoshou: New West China, His Novel Exploration, and Personal Writing Transformations
Tao Bingyuan, Xu Zhaoshou
Abstract:In the interview, Xu Zhaoshou shares his profound insights into the culture of the western region and his writing transformations. He believes that the west should not be regarded merely as a symbol of poverty and backwardness but as a region rich in history and cultural confidence. With the One Belt One Road initiative, the role of the western region has become increasingly important. Xu emphasizes that China's confidence stems from reviewing the glory of the Han and Tang dynasties, and admittedly the western region is the source of this historical confidence. He advocates rediscovering the west, breaking the Central Plains civilization centrism, and reinforcing the vital position of the west in Chinese culture and global cultural exchanges through writing and research. Xu Zhaoshou's writing has evolved from poetry to novels, and then to in-depth studies of the Yijing and the Chinese view of civilization, with a deep understanding and thought of China's western and traditional Chinese culture respectively.
